Project Description

Mayflower Village

The project

Mayflower Village Redevelopment, Sydney, NSW

Client: Uniting Care Aging

Sector: Aged Care

Project Period: March 2013 – Jan 2015

The brief

Mayflower Village is a single site with five seven-storey buildings connected by a single basement. The project has a variety of accommodation options, including 150 Care Households and Care Apartments, with more than 190 Independent Living Units. In addition to the rest home itself, there is an onsite Village Shop, Multi Purpose Room, 53-place childcare centre and two day centres. Olsson Fire & Risk was asked to undertake fire engineering design from concept through to construction observation and monitoring. The project brief outlined areas that were subject to Alternative Solutions in lieu of the Deemed to Satisfy provision in Australia.

The solution

Olsson Fire & Risk had to accommodate these solutions from the beginning. The redevelopment of the site required existing building operations to continue during construction of new spaces. Therefore it was important to ensure that Fire Engineering design was approached in a practicable way to integrate the various buildings while remaining compliant with relevant codes. The project involved Fire Engineer Design Reports and documentation including Detailed Design Notes (Schematics), liaison with Authorities and stakeholders, building consent detailed documentation and construction observation services.
