The brief

Vision Apartments is a prestigious residential tower being constructed on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne. The 74-storey building, which will be the highest residential building in the Melbourne CBD, will rise over 210m and include mixed-uses, such as retail areas, lounge/pool/gym area and residential apartments.

As fire safety engineers for this project, we were engaged for fire safety design, addressing all non-compliances and providing robust and cost-effective solutions adding value for the developers as well as adequate safety to the future occupants.

The solution

The building, which includes central staircase with scissor stairs, will be sprinkler-protected, provided with smoke detection system and have bespoke requirements for fire spread protection. Costs of fire safety could be reduced by omitting the zone smoke control system from commercial levels as well as fire hose reels from apartment levels.
